Subject:Here it is!
Time:10:18 am.
The fandomdirectory AQ.

1. What is this?

This is an incomplete list of livejournal fans of Harry Potter.

2. Why did you do it?

When I read my own dinky friends list, I always saw entries talking about big things happening in the rest of the fandom, and I always felt out of the loop. So I would spend the next hour or so jumping from journal page to journal page trying to figure out exactly what was going on. So I figured that I should just add everybody. But then the question is, when do you stop? The answer I came up with was, you don't. At least, not until your fingers get tired.

3. Why didn't you use your own friends page?

My own friends list is very small, and if I added everyone to it, I wouldn't be able to keep up with the people who are my closest friends. They would get lost. Also, I made this list for everyone to use if they want, and I thought that people would rather read off of something public, like fandomdirectory, instead of something like livejournal.com/users/jodyschmoe/friends.

4. Who are you?

This is the one question that I won't answer. First of all, I don't think it's any more relevant than the name of the person who compiled the phone book. Second, naming myself gives me some sort of artificial status in this community, and that's one thing that I don't want. This list shouldn't single out any one person more than any other. Third, it probably wouldn't mean anything to you, anyway. I'm a lurker. Maybe 50 of you would recognize my name, and maybe 5 of you would care. Maybe. And the rest of you - I don't want you to know me (postitively or negatively) as the person who somehow found the time to type 500 names into a friends list.

5. I'm on your friends list. Why?

Your journal was a member of a Harry Potter fan community. You listed Harry Potter fans as your friends. You listed Harry Potter in your interests. Something made me think that you liked Harry Potter. If you don't, and you don't want to be on this list, please let me know.

6. I'm not on your friends list. Why?

Could be for a couple of reasons.
a. I didn't find your journal before I got sick of typing in names.
b. I noticed that your journal was friends only.
c. You asked me to take your name off the list.

These are the only reasons. If I missed you, it was because I got lazy before I found you. There are a lot of big names that I didn't get around to adding, there are a lot of little names that I didn't get around to adding. No one was left off on purpose. If you want to be here, I want you to be here. Add, and I will add you back.

7. So do I have to keep you listed as a friend if I want to be listed?

NO. You don't. You don't need to add me back. If you add in order to be added back, you don't need to leave me on after I have added you. Everyone likes to be added back, but if you don't, you won't hurt my feelings.

8. You think that you are going to be able to keep up-to-date with all of the fandom LJs?...Oh my. ::wonders about your sanity::

I wonder, too! No, I don't have any plans to read every post. I just hope to be able to look at the friends page and find something interesting and new every time. Maybe meet some people I wouldn't ordinarily meet. Also, it's fun to see how trends spread from journal to journal. I just hope to get an idea of what is going on in different corners of the fandom rather than knowing what is happening with every single person. And I hope that other people find it fun and useful, too.

9. And why not use the journal...?

I may. I don't plan to, but I might just have to point out interesting or funny posts that I find. But overall, I don't have any need for a soapbox. I just want to see what other people have to say.

10. I am no longer in the HP fandom/hate lists/feel uncomfortable with this journal/etc, etc. Please remove me?

11. So then everyone can drop in and find other HP fandom people, browse the friends list whenever they feel like it, and just generally feel sorta cool for being worthy of inclusion in this thing?

Got it in one! This is exactly what I want to do, and I hope other people have fun with it, too.

12 *wibbles* Little creepy that you keep adding every mention of your LJ to your memories. O.O Are you just watching all the posts on your friends list for mentions of yourself?

It was cute to begin with. I couldn't help myself. I was just so thrilled that people noticed. Now that seems kind of naive. Of course everyone noticed. I lost track of the mentions before the first day was over.

13. When you say the fandom, do you mean the entire Harry Potter fandom or just those from Fiction Alley Park?

I want anyone who is a fan of Harry Potter that I can find. I have a lot of Fiction Alley people, and Sugarquill people, and so on, but that's just because I found the communities for those groups and pulled names off of the member lists. I don't think any corner of the fandom is more important than any other.

14. So are you aiming to be a barometer of the fandom?

I'm not aiming for anything. It would be great if I had the time and energy to keep that close of an eye on the friends page, but I don't think I will. I can't see myself posting in this journal much at all once I have finally convinced most of you that I won't bite.

15. Why am I on a list? I'm not nearly important enough in the fandom.....

Yes, you are.

16. So you'll read the questions posed and report that questions were posed, but you won't answer them. I'm quite picky about who I friend, and I'm not about to friend someone I don't know and who evades a simple question when asked. This anonymity thing of yours is really kinda freaky.

I'm sorry that you're freaked out. I think I would be too. I'm really harmless. I haven't been answering all of the questions because I haven't had the opportunity to sit down and give them the attention they deserve. I haven't answered (and I am not going to answer) the question about who I am, for the reasons I have stated above. I hope they clear things up for you, but if they don't, don't add me back. I'm more than happy to take you off the list if you don't want to be there. I'm picky about my lj friends, too, so I understand.

Anything I missed? Please ask. In the meantime, I have some goat porn to write.

Subject:What a day!
Time:4:44 am.
It's been about 24 hours since we took off, and the Fandom has spoken.

Some of the things the Fandom has said:

1. Blow me, fanfiction.net.

2. Who is fandomdirectory?

They say it's your birthday, queerasjohn.

It's my birthday, too!

As you can see, this is more of a friends page than an actual journal.

If you are part of the Harry Potter fandom in any shape, size or form, this journal wants you. (Lurkers, we mean *you*, too!) Leave a comment or add this LJ to your friends list, and you'll be added back.
